The Little Ice Lollies and Santa’s Idea

Far to the north, where stars dance above snow-covered rooftops, and Santa’s sleigh stands ready all through December, there once lived ten very special little elves.

They weren’t big like the other elves— in fact, they were no bigger than a coconut.

Their eyes sparkled like heart-shaped stars,

and the tips of their noses bounced every time they giggled— which was often.

With their tiny bodies, they could hide inside a Christmas stocking, ride on the back of a hare,

or vanish into someone’s pocket.

But even though they were clever and kind,

they were always terribly, terribly cold.

They knitted miniature mittens and pocket-sized blankets, and slept in teacups lined with goose feathers — but the cold still crept all the way down to their little toes.

Then one day, Santa called them to his side.

He smiled beneath his long white beard and said:

“Perhaps you little snow-popsicles need a bit of... sunshine.”
